This is what we believe to be a "Bristol" Blue sugar bowl dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, c1800, and sporting the legend "Love the giver". The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the foot. The bowl is of cup form in the Bristol Blue colourway and measures 11.3 cm (4.5 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl sits on a plain stem that leads to a domed, folded foot which measures 7. Cm (3.1 inches) in diameter. The bowl is 9.7 cm (3.9 inches) in height. There is a slightly rubbed band of gilding below the rim and a small sprig of foliage on one side of the bowl.
The legend "Love the Giver" appears in italic font to the front body of the jug in gold enamel. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration. The gilding is heavily rubbed in places. The item "Georgian Bristol Blue sugar bowl Love the Giver" is in sale since Sunday, November 19, 2017.
